ECOBEAM designs and manufactures a wide range of custom products for the home. The company uses nails recovered from dismantled materials. Decorative items are made with old metal. The end result is unmistakably unique, made from wood carefully selected for its beauty, essence and thickness. Customers can request wood that creates a uniform look, or timeworn wood with nail holes, rustic markings, recycled iron detailing, restored or modified.
BACKGROUNDER EcoBeam uses wood from trees that are sometimes over 600 years old. According to Christian Pellerin, “this first growth lumber constitutes a far superior raw material than the wood harvested today.” Older wood grew in denser forests and was tested more by its natural environment. The resulting tighter wood grain makes reclaimed wood stronger and more massive than new wood.
Also, contrary to popular belief, time actually adds quality to wood. Wood that is 170 years old no longer bends or warps. As for reclaimed wood beams, you cannot find beams of that size and quality anymore.
NAILING DOWN BEAUTY Because the area around old and beaten steel nails blackens over time, the result is wood plank floors with vintage panache.
