BACKGROUNDER EcoBeam uses wood from trees that are sometimes over 600 years old.  According to Christian Pellerin, “this first growth lumber constitutes a far superior raw material than the wood harvested today.” Older wood grew in denser forests and was tested more by its natural environment. The resulting tighter wood grain makes reclaimed wood stronger and more massive than new wood.

Also, contrary to popular belief, time actually adds quality to wood.  Wood that is 170 years old no longer bends or warps.  As for reclaimed wood beams, you cannot find beams of that size and quality anymore.
